Aline Joyce is a local artist based in North Bondi, evolving from a background of prosthetics and make-up within the Australian film and television industry to full time study and art practice at the College of Fine Arts.

This first body of work is geared around the interest of capturing mood and emotion, focussing on a reflection of thought or the unguarded moment. The predominate method used is based around removing all previously taught painting techniques; sketching with paint straight onto the canvas as an alternative to preliminary drafting creates a more intuitively painted space and attempts to capture a moment. Experimenting with 'slap dash' as a new mode through the basis of portraiture to explore this technique, the honesty of expression through a deconstruction of form and a layer age of colour and texture is the creative platform for such exploration. Large formatting is further used to emphasize the magnitude of ones thought processes, and the complication of the human mindset in a modern overtly multifarious world.

Thoughts of all the political problems in the world that face us each day lead to questions of apathy within our society due to people becoming disenfranchised within the system. The strength of the individual within the community is being lost due to the growth of corporatist society. The dynamics of human interaction have shifted into more of an online community leaving behind neighbourhood contact. This theme is being touched upon within the muted self-portrait, a theme that will further be explored in future works to emphasis the strength and importance of the human voice articulated within any medium. This is the beginning, a conscious, creative exploration within our streets.

Peace.
